DECORA, the name everyone trusts.

One of the few remaining family businesses which have stood the test of time, Decora was started 40 years ago by Mr. Tom McWhirter and his wife Freda, and from humble beginnings in a small shop in Lossie Wynd, Decora evolved to become the foremost superstore in the north of Scotland.

The turning point was the move to a converted mill twenty years ago, which not only allowed the company to expand it's range of DIY materials, but provided the floor space to introduce a kitchen and bathroom department, wallpaper and paint section and also meet public demand with the opening of the garden centre.

The range of tools, hardware and even picture framing materials is second to none throughout the north east, and with son Darren now also on board, Decora has entered the new millennium as runaway leader in the field of DIY.

"When the bigger conglomerates came on the scene, many of the DIY stores were forced to close their doors in the face of the fierce competition," says Tom, "but from day one, our commitment to quality, service and price not only matched all comers, but sent them home to think again as we consolidated our claim of being Scotland's leading DlY Centre".
